'Fiende' pairs a new Shining composition with an exclusive cover, offering a concise snapshot of the band’s sound just before 'X – Varg utan flock'. "Jag Är Din Fiende" is the heavier half: seven minutes of blackened riffs, dissonant acoustic passages, sharp lead guitar work, and Niklas Kvarforth shifting between harsh vocals and more melodic delivery. It is severe and recognisably Shining, but already shows the stronger rock influence that had become increasingly present in their work.

The B-side takes a completely different route. "No Rest for the Wicked" is a faithful cover of The Coffinshakers, leaning into acoustic horror-rock and country-inflected melancholy rather than black metal. Released in 2017 as a limited 10" edition of 666 copies, 'Fiende' works less like a conventional EP than a sharp contrast between two sides of Shining: abrasive, blackened heaviness on one side and stark, stripped-back songwriting on the other.
