Black metal
is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal, characterized by its raw, abrasive sound and often atmospheric or haunting qualities. It features fast tempos, shrieking vocals, tremolo-picked guitar riffs, and blast beat drumming. Lyrically, it often explores themes of darkness, paganism, anti-religion, or nature. Known for its lo-fi production and evocative, sometimes controversial, aesthetics, black metal is both extreme and deeply atmospheric.
