Dense atmosphere and dissonant heaviness define 'The Orphic', a three-track EP that pushes Wells Valley deeper into the darker edges of post-metal. "Annunciation" and "Ophanim" unfold through slow, imposing riffs, blackened vocals, and long-form structures that move between sludge weight, doom pacing, and sudden bursts of aggression. Rather than relying on constant impact, the trio allow tension to build gradually, using repetition, dynamic shifts, and increasingly oppressive textures to shape the record’s ritualistic character.

The closing "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" reworks the Pink Floyd original through Wells Valley’s heavier language, retaining its psychedelic core while surrounding it with doom-laden guitars, harsh vocals, and post-metal dynamics. Across roughly twenty-three minutes, 'The Orphic' captures the Lisbon trio balancing atmosphere and brute force, expanding their sound without losing the darkness established on 'Matter As Regent'.
