Description

Sharpening their sound into something leaner and more direct, 'Cleansing' marked a defining moment for Prong in the mid-1990s. Emerging from a background rooted in New York hardcore and thrash, the band stripped away excess in favor of tightly controlled aggression, locking into groove-heavy rhythms and mechanical precision. The result was an album that balanced heaviness with clarity, channeling tension and frustration through compact, forceful songwriting that carried both industrial rigidity and mosh-driven momentum.

Produced by Terry Date, Prong pushed their rhythmic approach further across tracks like “Whose Fist Is This Anyway?” and the enduring “Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck,” both of which became central to the band’s identity. Elsewhere, “Cut-Rate” and “Broken Peace” reinforced the album’s cold, percussive edge, while maintaining a strong sense of groove throughout. The influence of industrial metal and post-thrash textures gave 'Cleansing' a distinctive character that would resonate far beyond its release. Focused, abrasive, and sharply executed, the album stood as one of the band’s most influential and enduring works.
