Description
Machine logic and fractured thought become the raw material of 'I.M. Mentalizing', the debut full-length from Black Mecha, the electronic project of Fortress Crookedjaw of Wold. Released in 2015 through Profound Lore, the album replaces black metal instrumentation with sparse analog electronics, damaged synth pulses, glitches, and repetitive rhythmic signals. Its sci-fi concept is inseparable from the sound: cold patterns appear, malfunction, repeat, and dissolve, creating an atmosphere somewhere between laboratory experiment, psychological conditioning, and malfunctioning artificial intelligence.
Shorter pieces such as "Brain Saw", "Head Works", and "Psy Fall" reduce the approach to tense bursts of mechanical abstraction, while "Natural Laser" allows the synthetic pulse to become more spacious and hypnotic. Thirteen-minute closer "Mental Picture" pushes furthest into repetition and disorientation, gradually transforming minimal electronic gestures into an oppressive mental landscape. Throughout 'I.M. Mentalizing', Black Mecha avoids conventional melody and narrative progression, using texture, repetition, and technological unease instead. The result is stark and deliberately alien: experimental electronic music conceived less as songs than as transmissions from an unstable machine consciousness.
