Political fury and metallic crust collide hard on 'Iconic Nightmare', the 2013 full-length from Wisconsin’s Wartorn. Released through Southern Lord, the album pushes the band’s long-running D-beat and crust foundations into a heavier, more polished direction without losing the rawness that defined their earlier work. Thick guitars, driving drums, barked vocals, and flashes of death-metal grit give the record a dense physicality, while the songwriting remains rooted in the urgency of hardcore punk and the Swedish crust tradition associated with Wolfbrigade and Tragedy.

The title track sets the tone with shifting tempos and a massive, immediate riff, while "Unfinished Blueprint" and "Permanent Blackout" push the D-beat momentum forward with almost no pause. "No Sanctuary No Salvation" brings in a stronger metallic edge, including riffs that contemporary reviews compared to Swedish death metal, while "Six Feet Under" and "Knee Deep In Blood" balance speed with memorable lead guitar work. Across nine tracks and barely twenty-five minutes, 'Iconic Nightmare' keeps its focus tight: dark, politically charged crust sharpened by hardcore intensity and metal weight.
