Written in the quiet seclusion of a woodland cabin in northern Georgia, 'Georgia Gothic' found Mattiel working with a newfound sense of unity. After years spent touring together, Mattiel Brown and Jonah Swilley approached their third album less as two separate musicians and more as a single creative entity, allowing their songwriting to grow through experimentation and mutual trust. The result expanded the duo's sound while retaining the sharp lyricism, distinctive vocals, and melodic immediacy at its core.

Recorded largely in a simple studio set up in a borrowed room of a dialysis centre, with Swilley handling production, the album was later mixed by John Congleton. From the infectious "Jeff Goldblum" and driving "On the Run" to the darker "Blood in the Yolk" and playful "Subterranean Shut-In Blues", 'Georgia Gothic' moved through garage rock, indie rock, and vintage pop influences without settling into a single shape. Adventurous yet immediate, the album captured Mattiel pushing their creative partnership into new territory with confidence and an instinct for memorable songs.
