Case Studies 'The World is Just a Shape to Fill the Night'
Case Studies was the project of Jesse Lortz, who sought a more collaborative and fulfilling creative process after years of making music in isolation. Most of the songs were recorded in February 2011 at a secluded cabin in Sequim, WA, with the help of friends including Greg Ashley (Gris Gris), Milana, Julia, Nicolas, Keegan, Suzie, Lisa, and Andrew. The cabin sessions marked the third time many of the songs had been recorded, capturing a raw and intimate energy.
Lortz wrote the songs over a period spanning his marriage and up to his 32nd birthday, reflecting personal transformation and emotional depth. Unlike a traditional band, Case Studies allowed him the flexibility to perform alone or with others while exploring creative outlets beyond music, such as drawing, jewelry making, and writing. For Lortz, this project represented a newfound excitement for music, free from past constraints.
