'Love and Regret' captures Cold Showers at the point where post-punk austerity, shoegaze haze, and synth-driven melody fully converge. Formed in Los Angeles in 2010, the band build their debut around precise rhythms, angular guitar patterns, deep bass lines, and a persistent sense of romantic distance. The influence of Factory Records hangs over the album, but rather than simply recreating an older sound, Cold Showers reshape that atmosphere through thicker guitars, brighter synths, and a more immediate melodic pull.

"Alight" opens with a restrained, hypnotic momentum, while "I Don't Mind" and "Violent Cries" bring a rougher, more urgent edge. "BC" locks into one of the album’s strongest rhythmic grooves, balancing sharp guitar work with hazy atmosphere, while "In Terms of Pleasure" and "New Dawn" lean further into the band’s wistful melodic side. Closing track "Seminary" stretches the mood into a darker, more expansive finale. Across eight songs, 'Love and Regret' establishes Cold Showers as a band equally interested in tension and accessibility, pairing post-punk discipline with shoegaze texture and synth-pop melancholy.
