Description
Few records from the Portuguese underground sound quite as sealed off from the outside world as 'O ovnh intot adr mordrb'. On their second full-length, Voëmmr deepen the raw black metal language established on 'Nox Maledictvs', pushing it toward something more urgent, hysterical, and oppressive. Guitars blur into a dense haze, drums hammer with primitive insistence, and tortured vocals tear through the mix, while eerie organ and synth lines hover underneath like a second, spectral layer. The result is intentionally murky but never shapeless, using repetition and atmosphere to create a persistent sense of ritual and dread.
Across six extended pieces, the album shifts between frantic momentum and slower, more hypnotic passages without breaking its claustrophobic spell. "Vin ad Mordrb" builds unease from sparse guitar and tape hiss before collapsing into violence, while "Del ed Ovtmn" works through a repeating motif and minimalist percussion. Ten-minute centrepiece "Profvndr" pushes furthest into melancholia, layering tortured vocals over increasingly suffocating textures. 'O ovnh intot adr mordrb' remains rooted in the ancient, deliberately obscured aesthetics of 1990s raw black metal, but Voëmmr give that language a distinct identity through atmosphere, repetition, and their unsettling use of keyboards.
