Darkness becomes something almost physical on 'Anthems for Catharsis', as thisquietarmy pares his music back to drones, feedback, programmed percussion, and slowly shifting guitar layers. Created by Eric Quach after years of touring and collaborative work, the album deliberately sheds much of the shoegaze, krautrock, and doom colouring heard elsewhere in his catalogue. What remains is colder and more severe, yet the addition of driving rhythms and increasingly structured arrangements gives these six pieces a momentum that pushes his ambient foundations toward post-rock.

"Purgation / Purification" builds from repetition into a dense, almost blackened surge, while "From Darkness Redux" opens wider spaces between the layers of sound. "Accommodator" introduces a mechanical pulse beneath the guitar haze, and "Masquerade" sinks deeper into sustained drone before "Closure" dissolves the record into a long, cinematic drift. Released in 2015 to mark ten years of thisquietarmy, 'Anthems for Catharsis' captures Eric Quach refining his familiar language of repetition and atmosphere into something unusually focused, rhythmic, and severe.
