Soft Moon, The 'Deeper'
Luis Vasquez never intended for The Soft Moon to reach the public’s ears; for him, music was always about self-actualization rather than self-aggrandizement. However, the bleak, hushed sounds he created in his small Oakland apartment eventually bubbled to the surface, leading to the release of his debut LP, 'The Soft Moon', in 2010 on Captured Tracks, which rose to critical acclaim.
Afterward, there was no turning back. The 'Total Decay' EP and 'Zeros' followed, and Vasquez returned with The Soft Moon’s most introspective album to date: 'Deeper'. Despite changes in the live lineup and a lull in touring, Vasquez remained the sole visionary behind the project. Working with producer Maurizio Baggio at Hate, Vasquez focused intensely on songwriting and singing, creating an album that was both clear and honest. 'Deeper' emerged as a personal exploration of existence, with Vasquez confronting old wounds and deep anger, leading him to a profound transformation. While the album may have brought him back to the waking world, it pulls listeners further into The Soft Moon’s dark, euphonic universe.
