Description
Built around the tragedies surrounding King Creon, 'κρέων (Creon)' transforms Greek myth into more than fifty minutes of relentless, long-form extremity. Rorcal structure the album around the deaths of Polynices, Antigone, Haemon, and Eurydice, allowing each composition to function as a separate chapter in the same catastrophe. Recorded live in just three days and mixed by Daniel Bergstrand, the record shifts the Geneva band further toward black metal, with sustained blast beats, dissonant guitar work, and possessed vocals balanced by slower, monumental passages and progressive structures.
The narrative dictates the movement of the music rather than the other way around. "Πολυνείκης (Polynices)" begins the descent with sustained violence and tension, while "Ἀντιγόνη (Antigone)" moves between furious acceleration and more spacious, mournful passages. By "Αἵμων (Haemon)" and "Εὐρυδίκη (Eurydice)", the atmosphere grows increasingly oppressive, with the final piece leaning most heavily into doom as Creon is left facing the consequences of his own decisions. 'Creon' is both savage and carefully constructed, using repetition, scale, and dynamic shifts to turn tragedy into something physically overwhelming.
