Description
Two decades into their unpredictable journey, Gnod turn 'Chronicles of Gnowt (Vol 2)' toward the raw, repetitive force that has long run through their sound. Recorded live over six days at Hellfire Studios with producer Spud Murphy, the album captures the Salford group playing as a tightly bound unit: grinding guitars, pounding drums, shredded vocals, and massive central riffs. “The Witness” sets a driving groove in motion before its guitars erupt, while “Ice Man” pushes a blunt, Melvins-like churn toward a harsher, more distressed edge.
Across five tracks, the band stretch repetition into something both punishing and hypnotic. “Traveller’s Return” and “Old Gold” build tension through interlocking guitar lines and muscular grooves, with Paddy Shine’s feverish vocal delivery adding an incantatory pull. The centrepiece, “Strangled,” expands that approach into a twelve-minute collision of concrete-heavy riffs, dubbed-out abstraction, spoken-word poetry from Lauren McLean, and an air-raid siren. Maximal yet disciplined, the album shifts between claustrophobic pressure and open-ended space without softening its intensity. 'Chronicles of Gnowt (Vol 2)' finds Gnod at their most forceful, making repetition feel physical, unruly, and alive.
