Description
Rooted in reconnection and self-discovery, 'As Above, So Below' found Sampa the Great returning to Zambia and embracing the many layers of her identity. Shaped by reflections on family, heritage, and womanhood, the album unfolded as both a personal statement and a broader meditation on Africa’s relationship with the world. Spoken word passages in Bemba and the recurring presence of her alter ego Eve gave the record a conceptual depth, balancing introspection with celebration and cultural affirmation.
Across the album, Sampa the Great drew from hip hop, soul, jazz, and Zamrock-inspired textures to create a sound as varied as her journey. “Lane” and “Mask On” paired sharp lyricism with confident energy, while “Never Forget” and “Can I Live?” deepened the record’s connection to memory and ancestry. Collaborations with Denzel Curry, Joey Bada$$, Kojey Radical, Angélique Kidjo, and W.I.T.C.H. expanded its scope without diluting its focus. 'As Above, So Below' stood as a vibrant and deeply personal work, where heritage, experimentation, and emotional honesty converged in Sampa’s most complete artistic statement to date.
