Molchat Doma introduced their stark, hypnotic sound on 'S Krysh Nashikh Domov', a debut that first appeared in 2017 and quickly found listeners beyond their home in Minsk, Belarus. The title translates as “Houses Are Silent,” a fitting frame for the album’s shadowed atmosphere and restrained emotional intensity. Egor Shkutko’s deep, near-monotone Russian vocals sit against Roman Komogortsev’s guitar, synthesizers, and drum machine, with Pavel Kozlov’s bass and synths adding depth to the trio’s lean arrangements. Despite the reserve, melodies remain direct and memorable, drawing listeners into the album’s muted, nocturnal world.

Post-punk, new wave, and synth-pop meet in songs that balance bleak textures with a steady, danceable pulse. Gothic in mood but never anonymous, the record draws on familiar musical traditions while establishing a character distinctly its own. Synth lines and drum-machine patterns give the songs a cool, mechanical edge; the bass and guitar add weight beneath Shkutko’s measured delivery. First released on CD and cassette, 'S Krysh Nashikh Domov' later received its first vinyl edition through Sacred Bones Records, bringing the Minsk trio’s debut to a new format and audience.
