Description
'Invasion' expands the “Ambient Fiction” world that Josh Graham established with 'Colony', pushing IIVII further into the space between ambient music and science-fiction soundtrack design. Built from analog synths, tape loops, drones, and layered electronics, the album draws on Berlin School ambience and the atmosphere of 1980s film scores without sounding purely retro. Compared with its predecessor, the addition of more pronounced percussion gives the record a stronger sense of propulsion, turning its eerie soundscapes into something more urgent and cinematic.
Across pieces like "Unclouded by Conscience", "Hidden Inside", and "No More Enemies", Graham balances suspended drones with pulsing rhythmic detail, while the three-part sequence "We Came Here from a Dying World (I)", "Tomorrow You'll Be One of Us (II)", and "Sanctuary (III)" gives the album a loose narrative arc. 'Invasion' feels less like a collection of tracks than a continuous environment: ominous, spacious, and built to suggest images of arrival, transformation, and unease.
