Description
Emerging from Baltimore’s resurgent hardcore underground, ‘Held in Contempt’ announced Doubt as a band fully aware of both lineage and possibility. Ferocious yet controlled, the EP balanced the mid-tempo heft associated with East Coast hardcore against sudden bursts of speed more typical of West Coast punk. The result felt physical and uncompromising, driven by an understanding that power didn’t need excess to land hard. Recorded with engineer Aidan Elias in New York City, the release carried a sense of intent — a band stepping into a wider tradition while sharpening its own voice.
Across six tracks, Doubt refused easy categorisation. Stomping fight riffs collided with d-beat urgency and flashes of technical precision, never sacrificing momentum for flash. Vocalist Claire Abila’s throat-ripping delivery brought focus and force, channelling themes of revenge, autonomy, and reclaiming power with blunt clarity. Guitars cut between weight and abrasion while bass and drums locked everything into an unyielding stride. ‘Held in Contempt’ neither forced innovation nor leaned on nostalgia; it simply delivered exactly what it promised. As a statement of arrival, the EP captured a band operating with confidence, urgency, and belief, reinforcing Baltimore hardcore’s renewed relevance and pointing toward a future that felt both volatile and vital.
