Description

After the release of 2016's 'When Shall This Bright Day Begin', Jozef van Wissem returned to Consouling Sounds with the follow-up album 'Nobody Living Can Ever Make Me Turn Back'. Inspired by a Vanitas painting by Belgian artist Cindy Wright, which also serves as the album cover, the music beautifully reflects themes of vanity, temporality, and senselessness through fragile lute arrangements and sparse, delicate vocals.

Each song title references the painting, making each track a memento mori in itself. This introspection is counterbalanced by the album’s strong, deep sound. 'Nobody Living Can Ever Make Me Turn Back' stands out as one of Van Wissem’s purest, yet most profound and full-sounding works to date.
