Description

Have you ever felt like you’re being watched? That eerie sensation of unseen eyes monitoring your every move lingers at the heart of Daniel Davies' EP, 'Spies'. A frequent John Carpenter collaborator, Davies crafts five atmospheric tracks that channel the paranoia of the “psychic staring effect.” Composed in the depths of the 2020 lockdown, the music reflects his isolation, turning inward to create an intimate yet expansive sonic landscape. His signature guitar and synthesizer blend seamlessly with double bass, cello, viola, and violin, adding a rich depth to his compositions.

As with his 2020 full-length 'Signals', Daniel Davies enlisted visual artist Jesse Draxler to create the cover art for 'Spies'. The stark black-and-white imagery—disembodied eyes staring with inscrutable intent—mirrors the record’s unsettling themes. The EP captures both the tension of solitude and the vastness of imagination, pushing Davies’ sound further into cinematic territory. Have you ever felt like you’re being watched? Maybe you are.
