Stemming from an offer by Roadburn Festival organizer Walter Hoeijmakers, mutual acquaintances, and a shared love of each other’s work, 'May Our Chambers Be Full' is the first recorded collaboration between Emma Ruth Rundle and Thou. While their solo material appears quite different at first glance, both artists have long operated at the fringes of the heavy metal scene, with a greater affinity for DIY punk and its successor, grunge. The album navigates a fine line both musically and thematically, blending Emma Ruth Rundle's post-rock-infused folk with Thou's downtuned, doomy sludge, resulting in a sound reminiscent of early ’90s Seattle and late ’90s Alternative Nation, while preserving each artist’s core identity.

The lyrical content of 'May Our Chambers Be Full' marries themes of mental trauma, existential crises, and the ecstatic tradition of expressionist dance. The album's evocative nature is complemented by visual art from renowned New Orleans photographer Craig Mulcahy, featuring faceless, genderless models to highlight a pervasive sense of ambiguity and emotional fluctuation. The images blend modern high fashion with classical Renaissance influences, reflecting the album's melodic, melancholic, and visceral qualities.
