Description
'Strange Peace' captures METZ at a turning point—still as loud, abrasive, and punishing as ever, but sharper in execution and more deliberate in its intent. Recorded live to tape by Steve Albini at Chicago’s Electrical Audio, the album channels the band’s blistering live energy into a focused studio document. Guitars churn and slash, rhythms collapse and reassemble, and Alex Edkins' vocals cut through with raw urgency. It’s not just a sonic assault—it’s a controlled demolition, built to provoke and to purge.
Finishing touches came back home in Toronto, where METZ worked with longtime collaborator Graham Walsh to add texture without softening the impact. The result is a record that balances chaos with clarity, pairing sheer volume with emotional and political weight. 'Strange Peace' isn’t content to merely thrill—it confronts. With themes of anxiety, distortion (literal and societal), and disillusionment, it plays like a social exorcism disguised as a punk record. Across its 11 tracks, METZ reassert their position not just as a force of noise, but as a band willing to evolve, challenge expectations, and turn discomfort into something transcendent.
