VR SEX 'Human Traffic Jam'
VR SEX debuted with 'Human Traffic Jam', an album exploring themes of lost autonomy through social media, the decline of human interaction, and celebrity favoritism. Written and demoed by Skum in Athens, Greece, during the winter of 2017, the album took shape in a week-long session at Figure 8 Studios with producer Ben Greenberg. Skum performed all instrumentation, crafting a tense and immersive sonic landscape.
Rather than adhering to specific influences, each track on 'Human Traffic Jam' blends shimmering tones with unsettling frequencies, creating what the band calls "dour pop" — a fusion of saccharine melodies and ominous textures. VR SEX merges death rock, synth punk, and post-punk with ambient and ethereal elements, forming a critical reflection on technology’s impact on human consciousness. The group consists of Noel Skum (Andrew Clinco of Drab Majesty), Z. Oro (Aaron Montaigne of Antioch Arrow/Heroin/DBC), and Mico Frost (Brian Tarney).
