Unwound 'Unwound'
Before they became icons of post-hardcore and noise rock, Unwound captured their chaotic beginnings on this raw, self-titled compilation. Originally released in 1995 on Vern Rumsey’s Punk In My Vitamins label, 'Unwound' assembles early EPs from Kill Rock Stars and Gravity Records alongside five previously unreleased session outtakes. It’s a snapshot of a band still finding its voice—feral, fractured, and buzzing with urgency.
Positioned somewhere between the sludgy bite of 'Bleach'-era Nirvana and the scorched punk of 'Damaged', this release documents the original trio of Rumsey, Trosper, and Sandeno during their formative stages. Screaming vocals, corrosive distortion, and tense, feedback-soaked structures hint at the controlled chaos that would define their later work. 'Unwound' isn’t just a collection—it’s the sound of a band coming into being, jagged and unapologetically loud.
