'Tweez', the 1989 debut album from Slint, marked the beginning of a band that would go on to quietly redefine underground rock. Recorded by Steve Albini and released on Jennifer Hartman Records, 'Tweez' was raw, angular, and deeply unconventional—more jagged math rock experiment than polished statement. Its disjointed rhythms, abrupt changes, and cryptic song titles (named after band members' parents) made it a cult curiosity at the time, but its DNA would ripple outward through post-rock, math rock, and beyond.

Unlike the haunting introspection of their later masterpiece 'Spiderland', 'Tweez' thrives on tension and distortion. The guitars chatter and churn with purpose, the drums snap with asymmetry, and the vocals are buried, mumbled, or shouted—often feeling like another instrument rather than a lead narrative. There’s a sense of playful antagonism threaded through the record, as if Slint were dissecting rock music to see how much could be removed before it collapsed. Though often overshadowed by what came next, 'Tweez' stands as a bold and influential document of a young band challenging the very foundations of structure, sound, and expectation.
