Description
Dark, introspective, and spiritually charged, 'Kali' marks a decisive step forward for PTOLEMEA, deepening the atmospheric language introduced on 'Balanced Darkness'. Led by Priscila Da Costa, the album explores destruction, renewal, and inner transformation through dense guitars, synths, percussion, and emotionally commanding vocals. Inspired by the Hindu goddess Kali, the record treats darkness not as an endpoint but as a necessary passage toward clarity, liberation, and rebirth.
Across nine tracks, PTOLEMEA move between heavy, doom-laden passages and more stripped-back, reflective moments. "Guilhotina" and the title track carry the album’s most imposing weight, while "Blue Moon" and "Breathe" lean into its more atmospheric side. "Gaivota" brings a distinctly Portuguese sensibility, and "Aqui, Ali, Acolá" broadens the palette with folk-inflected textures. Sung in both Portuguese and English, 'Kali' feels cohesive despite its stylistic range, balancing heaviness, mysticism, and introspection with a strong sense of emotional purpose.
