Her classically trained ear meets electronics, gamelan, orchestral brass, and intricately layered vocals, creating a sound that moves between the unfamiliar and the inviting. The album’s intensity feels earned: anger becomes creative momentum, while moments of release open into a hard-won affirmation of life. Voices shift from choral clarity to fractured sounds, while flutes and metallic percussion sketch its shifting terrain.

Composed through an intuitive, painstaking process, 'Dja Dja' draws on the framework of the Hero’s Journey, though Herlop ultimately lets the music stand apart from that narrative. Tracks answer one another across changes in tempo, texture, and mood; voice and bass are held back before arriving with added force. Gamelan recorded with local musicians in Bali meets hand-built arrangements and newly explored brass textures. From “As meigas” to “Bliss,” the fifteen movements form an ambitious, immersive whole, balancing intricate design with room for each listener to find a personal reading of their own.
