Born from a series of completely unrehearsed sessions in Tokyo, 'American Dollar Bill - Keep Facing Sideways, You're Too Hideous To Look At Face On' brought Keiji Haino and SUMAC together for a volatile encounter between free improvisation and extreme heaviness. With no predetermined structures or compositions, the musicians relied entirely on instinct, chemistry, and reaction, allowing silence, tension, and sudden eruptions of sound to dictate the direction of each performance. Across more than an hour, the album constantly shifted between restraint and overwhelming force, dismantling the boundaries separating metal from improvised music.

Recorded at Goksound, the collaboration placed Haino's voice, guitar, and masterful use of empty space against SUMAC's immense rhythmic power and abstract approach to heavy music. The sprawling title track and the two-part "I'm Over 137% A Love Junkie And Still It's Not Enough" moved through sparse exchanges, dissonant textures, and violent crescendos, while "What Have I Done?" pushed the ensemble toward complete sonic collapse. Unpredictable, confrontational, and uncompromising, the album captures four musicians abandoning convention in pursuit of pure, spontaneous expression.
