Description

Originally released in 2017, Irreversible Entanglements' self-titled debut captures the very first session of the quintet made up of Camae Ayewa (Moor Mother), Luke Stewart, Keir Neuringer, Aquiles Navarro, and Tcheser Holmes. The group met at a Musicians Against Police Brutality event and immediately channeled their shared urgency into this electrifying set of free jazz and radical poetry.

Raw, unflinching, and politically charged, the album revives the militant core of free jazz, with Ayewa’s searing spoken word weaving through stormy improvisations. Referencing the spirit of 1960s pioneers like Amiri Baraka and The New York Art Quartet, this is protest music in its purest form—honoring tradition while relentlessly pushing forward. It remains one of the most vital modern statements in avant-garde jazz.
