Description
Drifting between memory, geography, and circuitry, ‘Sidings’ unfolds as another immersive chapter in the evolving world of Craven Faults. The project’s third full-length double LP continues the quietly expansive vision established on earlier releases, where analogue synthesis becomes a means of mapping landscape, history, and the invisible infrastructures shaping northern England. Slow-moving sequences, patient melodic shifts, and textural detail guide the listener through a terrain where pastoral stillness and industrial legacy coexist. The music breathes with a deliberate pace, gradually revealing patterns that echo railway lines, old mills, and forgotten routes once vital to the movement of people and goods.
Across its extended compositions, Craven Faults draws inspiration from both local history and the wider global underground of experimental electronic music. The journey begins in a remote settlement formed around a monumental feat of engineering—tunnels and viaducts carved through the land to open up the north—and traces threads that stretch from recording studios in Los Angeles to northern English towns between the 1950s and 1980s. Carefully layered analogue tones suggest motion, distance, and quiet observation, rewarding attentive listening with subtle shifts and hidden details. With ‘Sidings’, Craven Faults continues to transform landscape and infrastructure into meditative electronic sound, where patience and curiosity reveal the deeper contours beneath the surface.
