Blanck Mass 'In Ferneaux'
What is the utility of pain? Can it do anything but fester? 'In Ferneaux' explores pain in motion, building chambers of experience and memory. Using an archive of field recordings from a decade of travels, isolation gave Blanck Mass an opportunity to connect moments when togetherness was impossible. The record’s two long-form journeys reflect nostalgia, gathering distant memories of voices, places, and sensations through a travelogue of sound.
These scenes alternate between aural tension and release, channeling the trauma of grief and rage. Inspired by an encounter with a prophetic figure in San Francisco, the album examines the question, “How do we handle misery on the way to the blessing?” With 'In Ferneaux', Blanck Mass merges the angelic with the dirge, revealing the misery and blessing as two sides of the same experience, grounded in the present yet striving for transcendence.
