Description

Cut in London in 1970, ‘Coming from Reality’ captures Rodriguez at a pivotal moment. Recorded at Lansdowne Studios with producer Steve Rowland and a cast of seasoned UK session players, the album marked the follow-up to ‘Cold Fact’ and the final release of his original Sussex era. Moving away from the stark Detroit grit of his debut, these sessions introduced a richer, more orchestrated palette while preserving Rodriguez’s incisive social commentary and melodic instinct.

On ‘Coming from Reality’, Rodriguez balances sharp observation with disarming pop sensibility. "Climb Up On My Music" opens with buoyant confidence, while "A Most Disgusting Song" pairs playful structure with biting wit. "Heikki's Suburbia Bus Tour" sketches vivid urban portraits, and "To Whom It May Concern" delivers one of his most immediate, hook-laden refrains. Lush string arrangements and carefully shaped dynamics lend warmth without diluting the lyrical edge. The result is a sophisticated yet grounded record, blending folk, baroque pop, and singer-songwriter intimacy into a quietly enduring statement.
