Pale Jay 'Bewilderment'
Pale Jay draws inspiration from bewilderment—the feeling of being perplexed and confused—for his new album. This soulful debut explores the unraveling of a family over years of avoidance and miscommunication, prompting Pale Jay to re-examine his identity and long-held beliefs. The result, 'Bewilderment', is a deeply introspective full-length album that seeks answers to life’s complex questions through music.
A trained jazz vocalist and pianist, Pale Jay wrote, recorded, and produced the entire album, with the exception of "By The Lake," a collaboration with labelmates Okonski. Influenced by artists like Labi Siffre, Carole King, and William Onyeabor, the album blends dusty soul, slow disco, and Afrobeat, enhanced by Raven Bush’s ethereal string arrangements. 'Bewilderment' takes listeners on a captivating journey of self-discovery, with each song reflecting themes of personal growth and understanding.
