Heather Benjamin 'Cavegirl Monologue'
'Cavegirl Monologue' is the most expansive collection yet from underground feminist artist Heather Benjamin. Known for her raw, unflinching portrayals of ultra-femmes drenched in blood, body hair, and unapologetic sensuality, Benjamin has long operated within zine and DIY comics culture. With this book, she pivots toward work meant to be experienced as singular, precious objects rather than mass-produced copies—opening up new creative territories in scale, color, and material experimentation.
The collection features both new and unreleased pieces alongside selections from Benjamin’s earlier foldout zines and artist books, including the now out-of-print 'Romantic Story'. It also includes works from her 2017 solo exhibition at Dress Shop in Brooklyn. 'Cavegirl Monologue' spans from tiny talisman-like drawings to towering portraits of feminine wildness, all united under the evolving voice of Benjamin’s “cavegirl” archetype. Visceral, defiant, and deeply intimate, the book serves not just as a retrospective but as a potent continuation of her mission to subvert and reclaim representations of womanhood through uncompromising visual storytelling.
