Description
First conceived in 1999, 'Three Men and a Baby' by Mike & The Melvins is the product of a collaboration that took nearly two decades to surface. The project was born when Mike Kunka (godheadSilo) joined forces with King Buzzo, Dale Crover, and Kevin Rutmanis of the Melvins during a tour. Sessions were recorded but left unfinished, shelved for sixteen years until the band reconvened in 2015 to finally complete the record. Released through Sub Pop in 2016, the album became both a long-lost artifact and a thrillingly fresh addition to the noise-rock canon.
The record is everything one would hope for from this unlikely alliance: Kunka’s crushing bass tone and vocals colliding with the Melvins’ signature churn, sludgy riffs, and eccentric energy. Across the eleven tracks, the music veers from grinding noise-rock assaults to twisted blues, deconstructed metal, and even a left-field Public Image Ltd. cover. Songs like "Chicken 'n' Dump" and "Gravel" embrace brute heaviness, while "Dead Canaries" and "Lifestyle Hammer" highlight the project’s off-kilter charm. 'Three Men and a Baby' is a chaotic, uncompromising document that bridges the worlds of Melvins and godheadSilo while standing firmly on its own.
