Description
Originally released in 1992, 'King Buzzo' was the first in a trio of solo releases inspired by Kiss’s famous 1978 individual albums. Created by Melvins frontman Buzz Osborne, the EP captured a more focused and song-oriented side of his writing while retaining the band’s warped sense of heaviness and experimentation. With guest drumming and narration from Dave Grohl (credited as Dale Nixon), the record balanced crushing riffs, industrial textures, and unexpected melodic detours.
Across its four tracks, 'King Buzzo' moved fluidly between noise, atmosphere, and understated hooks. “Isabella” opened with a pounding, repetitive force, while “Porg” drifted into a loop-based, quasi-industrial haze. “Annum” revealed a surprisingly restrained and melodic core, and “Skeeter” closed the EP with a spoken-word performance over dense, percussive instrumentation. Though conceived as a side project, 'King Buzzo' felt remarkably cohesive, offering a concise but revealing look into Buzz Osborne’s creative instincts beyond the main Melvins discography.
