Description
Primitive Weapons’ debut full-length, ‘The Shadow Gallery’, brings together metallic, dissonant hardcore, sludgy AmRep-style chaos and modern doom. Across seven pummelling tracks, the New York band works with the friction between these sounds: hardcore’s blunt impact meets dense, abrasive sludge and the dark weight of doom. The result is a compact but varied record that stays tense and forceful, shifting between styles without losing its raw edge. The concise arrangements keep the seven songs moving while preserving the album’s heavy, unsettled atmosphere.
Recorded at Wild Arctic Studios with Dean Baltolunis, ‘The Shadow Gallery’ captures Primitive Weapons shaping their sound into a direct, hard-hitting statement. “Good Hunting” opens the album, followed by “Quitters Anthem” and “The Death of Boredom”; the sequence continues through “Or Do Ideas Have You,” “Big Chief” and “Oath,” before closing with “Black Funds.” The seven songs give the album a focused, unrelenting pace, while its mix of metallic hardcore, sludge and doom gives the record its distinctive character. First released on vinyl in April, ‘The Shadow Gallery’ is a powerful introduction to the band’s confrontational approach and to the dark, heavy sound they brought out of New York.
