Description
It's a testament to how fertile England's mid-80s musical landscape was that the breakup of post-punk pioneers The Southern Death Cult led to the formation of numerous memorable and diverse groups, including Getting The Fear. The band's core members—rhythm section Barry Jepson, David 'Buzz' Burrows, and Aki Haq Nawaz Qureshi—were joined by Temple Ov Psychic Youth associate Paul ‘Bee’ Hampshire on vocals.
Their compilation 'Death Is Bigger: 1984-1985' brings together the group’s demos and unreleased songs, providing a full picture of their sound. The 10 tracks on the compilation are brooding, spiky, and sneering, exploring themes like dreams, sex, and Charles Manson. With razor wire guitars slicing through tense rhythms, their music moves from minimalism to melody, occasionally breaking into psychedelic poetry. Bee’s deep affinity with Psychic TV also emerges, adding layers of avant-garde influence to their work.
