WORLD NARCOSIS 'World Coda'

World Narcosis is a Reykjavik based powerviolence and grindcore band, and on this album demonstrate that they are a force to be reckoned with. Rather than go down a super clean form or even fantastically recorded form of aggression a la Rotten Sound, Wormrot, or newer Napalm Death, World Narcosis’ sound is extremely raw and brittle. Something about the way that everything just kind of muddles together into a wall of dissonant, freakish sound feels incredibly evil, and just as gruesome as the artwork that adorns this thing. And I must emphasize that word: freakish. Nothing about the way World Narcosis takes on powerviolence feels traditional; the guitars never seem to play any kind of standard punk riffs, instead focusing on herky-jerky dissonant chords that are incredibly disorienting on the first, second, or even third listen. The drums are equally frantic, never really settling into one groove. Lastly, I don’t know how many vocalists there are in this band, but every single one of them screams like they are being disemboweled and immolated at the same time, and it’s even better when they create massive group vocals by screaming at the same time. All of these incredibly abrasive elements come together to create one of the most jarring albums of powerviolence.
