Description
Urdog’s ‘Long Shadows: 2003–2006’ gathers the band’s most spectral and untamed recordings into a single, long-awaited document of their brief but potent existence. Emerging from Providence’s eerie creative fog, Urdog channelled the city’s strange energy into improvisational psychedelia shaped by mantric repetition, fuzz-drenched eruptions, and ritualistic ambience. Their music — raw, instinctive, and unfiltered — bridged early ’70s freak experimentation with the wild frontiers of the 2000s US underground. As guitarist Dave Lifrieri, drummer Erin Rosenthal, and organist Jeff Knoch followed intuition over refinement, they crafted soundworlds that felt summoned rather than composed, echoing ghosts, swamp atmospheres, and the surreal pulse of their surroundings.
Collected here for the first time on vinyl, ‘Long Shadows: 2003–2006’ captures Urdog’s transcendental improvisations at full force — from the shimmering drift of “Ice on Water” to the volcanic swirl of “Eyelid of Moon.” These recordings pulse with earthy ritual and cosmic drift, connecting Amon Düül II’s communal psych, Sunburned Hand of the Man’s free-form mysticism, and Providence’s own mythic weirdness. Though the trio existed only three years, their sound left an enduring mark, its intensity and celestial momentum still capable of stopping listeners in their tracks.
