Description
In the summer of 1968, at just 18 years old, Genesis P-Orridge (then Neil Andrew Megson) gathered with friends in a small attic in Solihull, England, to experiment with sound. The result was 'Early Worm', a collection of raw, exploratory recordings pressed to a single acetate in 1969. Blending noise, improvisation, and tape manipulation, these sessions channeled the spirit of psychedelia, Fluxus, John Cage, and beatnik Bohemia. Unearthed decades later from the Porridge With Everything Archives, the album offers a rare glimpse into P-Orridge’s earliest sonic experiments—seeds that would later grow into the radical art of COUM Transmissions, Throbbing Gristle, and Psychic TV.
Remastered from the original reel-to-reel tape, 'Early Worm' preserves the lo-fi textures and unfiltered spontaneity of its creation, standing as both a historical artifact and a testament to fearless artistic vision. More chaotic and freeform than psychedelic contemporaries like The Incredible String Band, these recordings reveal structural themes and sonic ideas that remained central to Genesis P-Orridge’s work for decades. With detailed liner notes written by P-Orridge herself, this limited vinyl pressing captures a formative moment in UK underground culture—documenting the restless creativity of an artist destined to redefine the boundaries of sound and art.
