Description
Created during downtime from The Men, 'Hypnotized' gave Nick Chiericozzi and Mark Perro somewhere to pursue ideas that no longer fitted comfortably within their main band. Beginning with loose jams after months of touring, the sessions gradually evolved into a strange collision of psychedelic rock, primitive electronics, drum-machine rhythms, and heavily treated guitars. Synths flicker through distorted blues patterns and repetitive grooves, giving the album a nocturnal, slightly futuristic character that feels deliberately removed from The Men’s more conventional rock approach.
Across its eight tracks, the duo repeatedly favour hypnosis over resolution, allowing simple riffs and electronic pulses to stretch into increasingly warped shapes. "Hypnotized" locks fuzzed guitar into a mechanical boogie, while "Iris" and "Pouring Rain" push deeper into hallucinatory effects and synthetic rhythm. "All We Are" dissolves toward shoegaze-like abstraction, and the extended "Let It Be" turns repetition into a slow psychedelic build. Even the gentler "Sandy" feels strangely displaced within the record’s electronic haze. 'Hypnotized' ultimately works as a separate world from The Men: looser, more synthetic, and driven by repetition, atmosphere, and the possibilities of studio manipulation.
