Description
Long before experimental hip-hop became a recognized movement, dälek’s debut album ‘Negro Necro Nekros’ arrived in 1998 as a confrontational and visionary statement from the East Coast underground. Emerging during a period when mainstream rap was becoming increasingly polished and commercialized, the group forged a radically different path, blending hardcore hip-hop with industrial textures, noise, shoegaze influence, and dense sound manipulation. Inspired as much by Public Enemy as by My Bloody Valentine and Faust, dälek pushed rap into darker and more abrasive territory, creating a sound that felt both revolutionary and deeply oppressive.
Across tracks like "Swollen Tongue Bums", "Three Rocks Blessed", and "And Hell is Coming with Us", crushing beats collided with distorted atmospheres, fractured samples, and politically charged intensity. The production transformed hip-hop into something closer to a sonic assault while maintaining lyrical urgency and rhythmic force at its core. This expanded reissue added remixes, instrumentals, and archival recordings alongside new artwork by Mikel Elam and Paul Romano. More than a historical document, ‘Negro Necro Nekros’ remained a landmark release that reshaped the possibilities of experimental and noise-infused hip-hop.
